Course Content

Market fit and bid selection
Construction projects and ongoing facilities contracts have different buying cycles and capacity demands. Projects may have fixed milestones, while facilities services depend on recurring performance and continuity. Identify the client, consultant, main contractor, user and procurement roles without assuming one organisation controls every decision. Evaluate mandatory requirements, capability, capacity and commercial attractiveness before committing bid effort. A documented no-bid decision can protect resources for opportunities the business can actually deliver.

  • 01. Identify service segments and decision roles
  • 02. Apply a practical bid or no-bid process

Survey and tender evidence
A survey converts a broad request into measurable service requirements and unresolved questions. Capture areas, assets, service windows, access restrictions and client responsibilities using an agreed scope boundary. Do not estimate from an unverified headline area alone. A tender response should explain how the proposed resources and method address those requirements, supported by relevant authorised evidence. Distinguish corporate experience from an individual employee’s past work and proposed capacity from confirmed availability.

Cost and contract boundaries
Build costs from quantities, service frequency, productive hours, materials, supervision and mobilisation assumptions. State exclusions and avoid treating billed hours as automatically productive hours. Pricing must account for the service actually promised. Contractual payment, retention, liability and variation terms influence cash needs and risk; their effect requires authorised review. The course uses simplified commercial examples and does not prescribe legal clauses, wage rates or mandatory staffing levels.

Relationship marketing and mobilisation
Relevant capability content and account relationships help buyers understand where a contractor can add value. Marketing claims should be traceable to genuine projects and approved evidence. Once an order is accepted, a controlled handover connects sales promises to mobilisation. Confirm access, resources, client contacts, dependencies and escalation routes before announcing readiness. Safety methods and site permissions are owned by the appropriate competent parties, not created by a sales promise.

Service evidence and renewal
Facilities relationships depend on clear service definitions and reliable reporting. A response acknowledgement is different from attendance or resolution; each needs its own clock and exclusions. Review performance with a stable population and investigate exceptions. Renewal should connect demonstrated outcomes, changed requirements, cost and capacity. Win-loss learning should improve future bids using factual feedback rather than blaming the buyer or making unsupported claims about competitors.
